Will this damage my truck or modify the ECU?
No. Nothing is reprogrammed, rewired or altered. The device plugs into the OBD-II port and sends a signal that keeps the engine in full V8 mode. Unplug it and the truck is exactly as it left the factory, with no record of it having been there.
Do I need tools or a mechanic to install it?
Neither. The OBD-II port sits under the dash on the driver's side, usually just above your left knee. Push the device in until it seats. The lights come on to confirm it is working. About ten seconds, sitting in your own driveway.
What does it actually do to the engine?
It stops GM's Active Fuel Management from dropping the engine into four-cylinder mode. That constant switching is what loads the lifters and produces the shudder you feel at highway speed. Keep all eight cylinders firing and the cycling stops.
Will it fit my vehicle?
It covers GM engines that use AFM or DFM across Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Holden and a few others — Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban and Escalade being the most common. Does it stay plugged in while I drive?
Yes. It has to stay in the port to hold the engine in V8 mode. Battery draw is minimal, and it can be left in permanently. Pull it out any time you want the factory behaviour back.
